Fella Fella was our first rescue and our first foster dog. He is a 2 year old male and he was dumped by his breeder at a shelter in Salem, Oregon and was subsequently turned over to rescue by the shelter. They were not even going to attempt to find him a home as he had been evaluated as "fearful" by the shelter. Poor dog had never been inside in his life and was a bit scared. After a few days at the POSO Bark n' Breakfast, he demonstrated himself to be a wonderful dog. He now lives with a nice lady named Bev and a dog sister named Gypsy on property out in the country and now goes by the name Cody. |

Mario June 1998 Mario was our second dog and had two placements before he found the right family. Mario is a 5 year old male who was picked up as a stray, running the streets in Portland, Oregon. As a foster for the county in which Portland is, I was asked to take Mario and find him a home. I found him what appeared to be a good home, but after 5 weeks in the home, he was returned as he just was not working out. Mario was 5 and had been with a family for 4 years but they had lost interest in him and haphazardly gave him away to the people that he ended up straying from. Mario had some dominance problems and while he did OK at the POSO BnB, with all the other dogs, one could tell he would really do better alone. A family was found that had no other animals and that wanted a Sam to pamper and spoil and Mario was the right dog. He now lives with Dia, Roland, Steve & Scott just outside Portland and is a very happy pooch with a very happy family. |

Crystal September 1998 Crystal was our first puppy rescue. She is a 3 month old female that was dumped at a feed store in a small town in Oregon, apparently because she had some kind of skin problem. She was rescued from the feed store buy a kind hearted lady named Lori who contacted us, after having found us on the internet. She asked us if we could take Crystal as they were not supposed to have dogs where they lived and were already in trouble with the landlord over the pup. We agreed to take her and made arrangements to meet at my vet's for an exam and to make the swap. Poor pup had a horrible, thick crust on her nose that looked like dried mud and all around her eyes was red and crusty. There was crust in her ears and on her lips. The vet diagnosed a staph infection and prescribed some medicines that worked like magic. Within 24 hours we started to notice an improvement in the crust and in a couple of weeks she was cured. Crystal now lives in a nice home in Portland with her new mom Stacy, a Sam dog brother named Oscar and three nice kids of her own and a nice dad named Tom. She has also had a name change and is now known as Emmy. |

Jazz November 1998 Jazz was a very unusual rescue and foster in that we had a great deal of background on her and she only stayed with us for 24 hours. Jazz had been through special training and is a hearing ear dog. She is 3.5 years old and has also had extensive obedience training. She had been living with a deaf lady for about 2 years and got in trouble because she snapped at a 2 year old child. The policy of the people who train and supply the dogs is to remove from the program a dog that shows any kind of aggression so Jazz was immediately "fired". The organization who had trained and placed her contacted us and wanted to turn her over to us to place in a good home. We agreed to take her and were very lucky in that we had a potential home that had been waiting for a dog just like her. |

Kia Kia came to us from the humane society in Portland, Oregon. They are a great bunch there and work very well and very closely with rescue. Kia and her "cell mate" had been brought in by their owner. He was moving and was getting rid of them so he hogtied them, tossed them in the back of his truck and brought them down. I got a call the next day and within two days we had Kia home with us.
At first Kia was shy in the foster home but quickly
warmed up to the people and other dogs there. And they warmed up to Kia,
so much so that they decided to adopt Kia themselves. Kia stayed with
this family for a year but then started to develop a problem with the
other female dogs that lived there. She wanted to be the dominant bitch
and was trying to fight her way up the ladder, to the top. It was
decided that Kia and everybody would be happier if she went to a home
where she was the only dog. She found a wonderful home with Jodi and
gets to go visit Jodi's parents who also have a Sam named Jake that she
can boss around all she wants. |

Jake December 1998 Jake came to rescue from animal control in Portland, Oregon. He was picked up as a stray. We estimated his age to be around 3. Jake was sent to a foster home to wait for the right family to come along. This took a little longer than it sometimes does as Jake did not get along well with cats and needed a cat free home. For the cat's sake. Other than that one "fault", Jake was a very sweet boy and got along well with other dogs and children. Jake stayed with his foster home for about 6 weeks and then went to his forever home with Bob, Brenda and a new Sammy girlfriend, Nikki. Nikki had been rescued by Bob and Brenda previously and they couldn't wait to add Jake to their family. And yes, it was a cat free home. |
